iPhone: Cisco setup

iPhone Cisco profile

Pre-requisites

  1. 12vpn.cer and vpnservices.cer root certificates as well as the vpn12345.v2.p12 identity certificate can be found on the iPhone 3.x or iOS 4.x pages
  2. Newer versions of iPhone/iOS can download these certificates directly from our website. If you run an older firmware version you'll need to download the certificates to your computer and e-mail them to your phone.

Important

  • Some users report that they need to turn off WiFi while installing the certificates.
  • Do NOT expect this configuration to work on WiFi. On some WiFi routers it will work fine, but many WiFi routers do not properly support IPSec (despite their claims and "special" pass-through support.) If you must use WiFi and below instruction fail, please try the PPTP instructions instead.

Install the root certificate

Open the 12vpn.cer file directly from the website, or from your e-mail on your iPhone. You'll be presented with the following screen.

Click install to continue.

Click Install Now to continue.

That's it. Click Done to close this screen and proceed with the identity certificate.

Repeat the above procedure for vpnservices.cer.

Install the identity certificate

Open the vpn12345.v2.p12 file directly from our website or from your e-mail on your iPhone. You'll be presented with the following screen.

Now click ''install'' and confirm you want to continue.

During the installation you'll be asked for a password. The password here is import.

Installation is finished!

Adding new VPN profile

Now you'll have to go to Settings -> General -> Network -> VPN -> Add VPN configuration to create new VPN profile.

Do NOT enter cisco.12vpn.com or jenny, instead use:

Server: (Please check https://12vpn.com/servers/ for currently valid Cisco servers.)

Username: vpn

Password: vpn

Finish by tapping the Save button.

Very important: your iPhone will try to make the first character of the Server name UPPER case, which will NOT work. The Server name must be completely _lower_ case.

Important

After disconnecting, please wait at least 30 seconds before re-connecting. Re-connecting too quickly will fail.

It's highly recommended that you configure multiple profiles for multiple servers.

Common problems

This means 12vpn.cer or vpnservices.cer was not installed properly. Please (re-)install them.

This means the Internet is not working. Please make sure the Internet on your phone works before trying to connect to the VPN.

This means the connection to the server is blocked.

If you use WiFi: check the IPSec pass-through option on your WiFi router. Most WiFi routers do NOT support IPSec properly. Rebooting the router can help.

If you use GPRS/EDGE/3G: ensure you use the correct APN. Some (WAP) APN's will allow websites to function, but not VPN's.
